Sir David and Daniel Harrison Visit Potters Sports Field Restoration
Harrison Foundation trustees Sir David Harrison and Daniel Harrison MBE recently returned to the Potters Sports Field site in Antigua and Barbuda, this time accompanied by Her Excellency Karen‑Mae Hill, Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner to the UK, and members of the design and building teams.
The visit was arranged to review progress of the restoration project, which is being funded by the Harrison Foundation, with the aim of providing local communities with a modern, well-developed sports facility.
The visit follows the groundbreaking ceremony earlier in the year. Since then, significant work has taken place towards the full refurbishment of the playing fields that will eventually comprise courts for basketball, netball and volleyball. There will also be cricket and football pitches and a fully constructed pavilion. Plus a new baseball diamond will be included and will be used by the Antigua Little League Programme.

Work so far has included significant site clearing and preparing the project to eventually include a children’s play area, equipped with modern safety surfacing and play structures and a walking track. In addition to this, infrastructure improvements including floodlighting, toilets, changing rooms, concession stands, and parking are also scheduled to be installed over the coming months.
During their site tour, Sir David Harrison noted the importance of seeing the project’s early promise transforming into physical form and he restated the Harrison Foundation’s focus on generating community benefit through sporting activities. This has been done successfully in the UK where the Harrison Foundation has long-standing partnerships with both Sunderland Football Club and Newcastle United Foundations to blend social mobility with sport.
High Commissioner Hill, who has overseen project coordination, provided Sir David and Daniel with updates on landscaping and preparations for handover to local facility managers.
The next steps will see the fruits of the landscaping work begin to come to fruition, with the cricket facilities the first of the planned sites. Once all works are completed, there will be a full handover to the local Potters community for use by students, sports clubs, and families across Antigua and Barbuda.

The Potters Playing Fields are located a stone’s throw from the nearby Harrison Centre Antigua and Barbuda for Continuing Education. The Centre is home to hundreds of people of all ages who benefit from courses in subjects such as welding, engineering and textiles with the aim of finding employment or the next step in their career.
Both projects represent multi-million pound investments into the communities of Antigua and Barbuda and come on the back of years of similar investment in the UK, showing that the Harrison Foundation’s impact is truly global.
