Partnership for Progress: Harrison Centre and Foundation of Light Extend Collaboration

At the Harrison Foundation, we believe in unlocking potential and creating real opportunities for people of all backgrounds. That’s why we are delighted to announce that our Harrison Centre for Social Mobility will be continuing its successful partnership with the Foundation of Light for another year.

For more than seven years, this collaboration has delivered life-changing support for young people and adults across the North East. Since opening at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland in 2018, the Harrison Centre has worked hand in hand with the Foundation of Light to champion social mobility. Together, we ensure that no young person is held back by their background and that everyone has the chance to build a brighter future.

Over the years, the Harrison Centre has invested over £600,000 into Foundation of Light employability programmes. That support has enabled thousands of young people to access essential skills training in IT, maths, English and financial literacy; personal development opportunities to build resilience and confidence; and industry-specific qualifications in areas such as Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics, Hospitality and Tourism, Retail, Customer Service, Health and Social Care, Childcare and Teaching & Learning in Schools. Together, these initiatives have delivered more than 250,000 guided learning hours. The results speak for themselves – over 65% of learners have successfully progressed into further education or employment.

Commenting on the ongoing commitment, Sir David Harrison, Founder of the Harrison Foundation, said: “Our aim has always been to give people the chance to thrive and reach their full potential, no matter their background. Working with the Foundation of Light has allowed us to turn that vision into reality for thousands across the North East. Together we are not just providing skills, but creating genuine opportunities to find employment and hope for the future.”

Sir Bob Murray CBE, Chairman of the Foundation of Light, added: “I’m thrilled that the partnership with the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility and the Foundation of Light continues to provide life-changing opportunities for our community. Both organisations share the same values and so much has already been achieved through working together, developing our portfolio of life changing programmes. We look forward to continuing to drive real change together for many years to come.”

This renewed partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in transforming lives. At the Harrison Foundation, we remain committed to driving positive change and ensuring that opportunity is within reach for everyone. Together with the Foundation of Light, we look forward to another successful year of progress, impact and success.
