Harrison Foundation Sponsors Sunshine Fund Team at the Mini and Junior Great North Run

The Harrison Foundation is proud to be the official sponsor of The Chronicle Sunshine Fund’s Mini and Junior Great North Run teams for 2026, continuing a long-standing partnership focused on supporting children with disabilities and serious illness across the North East.

The Junior and Mini Great North Run is a highlight in the regional calendar, bringing together families, schools and charities across a weekend that celebrates community and generosity. This year more than 60 children will take part on behalf of The Chronicle Sunshine Fund, raising vital funds while also participating in one of the UK’s most iconic running events.

For the Harrison Foundation this sponsorship builds on many years of working alongside The Chronicle Sunshine Fund and reflects a shared commitment to improving opportunities and quality of life for local children. The Sunshine Fund provides specialist equipment that is not available through the NHS but can make a life-changing difference to daily living, mobility, comfort and independence.

Last year the Harrison Foundation donated more than £27,000 to The Chronicle Sunshine Fund, helping to fund 30 pieces of specialist equipment. That support directly benefited 29 individual children and one primary school, reaching hundreds of pupils through sensory and mobility resources. From specialist buggies and sensory bundles to communication and learning aids, the funding helped families access essential equipment that would otherwise be out of reach.

The Junior and Mini Great North Run not only raises funds but also gives children the chance to be part of something special, building confidence and pride while contributing to a cause that helps many others across the region.

Having run the event many times with my own children, I know what an excellent day it is and what an excellent job it does raising funds for incredible charities like this. The Harrison Foundation has supported The Chronicle Sunshine Fund since 2017 and the partnership continues to grow, whether through major donations funding specialist equipment or through visible support at community events like the Great North Run.
