Harrison Foundation celebrates community achievement at Newcastle United Foundation Awards
The Harrison Foundation was proud to join and be a sponsor of the Newcastle United Foundation’s annual Celebration evening at St. James’ Park, recognising inspirational stories from across the North East. As a long-term partner and supporter since 2017, the Harrison Foundation has worked hand in hand with the Newcastle United Foundation to deliver opportunities, education and guidance that transform lives.
The evening brought together players, supporters and community leaders to celebrate people of all ages who have overcome barriers and achieved remarkable personal goals. In total, over £250,000 was raised during the event – the highest total ever.
For the Harrison Foundation, it was also an event that underlined our shared mission of giving a hand up to those who need support and to celebrate the lasting partnership between the two charities.
Among the evening’s award winners was Elyjah, recipient of the Young Leader Award, sponsored by the Harrison Foundation. Despite facing personal challenges at home, Elyjah’s determination and positivity have made him a role model. His commitment to learning and helping others embodies the values of resilience and opportunity that lie at the heart of both Foundations’ work.
The Celebration Dinner also highlighted the ongoing success of the Harrison Foundation’s broader partnership with the Newcastle United Foundation. Together, we reach thousands of children each year through our Partner Schools programme, run in secondary schools across Newcastle and North Tyneside. These Partner Schools provide targeted interventions and wellbeing support to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
Central to our partnership is the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility, based inside NUCASTLE — Newcastle United Foundation’s state-of-the-art community hub. The centre provides education, training and employment support to young people and adults looking to build brighter futures. Through workshops and career guidance, the centre brings the Harrison Foundation’s mission to life – creating opportunity for everyone, regardless of background or circumstance.
Daniel Harrison MBE, trustee of the Harrison Foundation, said: “Seeing so many inspiring stories recognised tonight really brings home what community support can achieve. Through our partnership with the Newcastle United Foundation, and our Harrison Centre for Social Mobility based at NUCASTLE, we’re helping young people and families across the region to find opportunity and confidence.
“The award winners tonight are living proof of what can happen when people are given the right support and belief.”
The event also saw Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame, alongside legends Glenn Roeder and John Anderson.
Steve Beharall, Newcastle United Foundation Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are proud to reflect on our progress as an organisation and celebrate the incredible achievements of the communities we serve across the North East. Our Celebration Dinner is the Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event and a chance to showcase the life-changing impact made possible by the generosity of our supporters, funders and donors.
“Every year, we deliver over one million hours of activity to create opportunities and raise aspirations for children, young people, families and older generations. The success of our award winners demonstrates what can be achieved – from improving physical and mental wellbeing to securing employment or enjoying inclusive sport with friends.
“With the continued support of Newcastle United Football Club, the Premier League, and our valued partners and donors, we look forward to growing our reach and impact across the region.”
