Fun at the Mini and Junior Great North Run

The Great North Run weekend is always a big, fun-filled event with over 40,000 people taking part.

This year, the Harrison Foundation put its money and running shoes where its mouth is. It was a great pleasure to be there for the Mini and Junior Great North Runs in September with our friends from the Newcastle Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund.

Over 60 young people representing the Sunshine Fund took part, including Harrison Foundation trustee, Daniel Harrison and his family, running the one-mile course around Newcastle and Gateshead’s Quayside.

The Sunshine Fund is a North East based charity that works to enhance the lives of local children with disabilities by funding equipment to meet their specialist needs. Whether it is specialist beds, wheelchairs, trikes, IT or sensory equipment that is not available through the NHS, local authorities or any other sources, the Sunshine Fund provides much needed practical assistance.

In 2018 there was a 35% increase in application submissions from families and organisations to the Sunshine Fund, showing the vital impact they have.

The Harrison Foundation was proud to support the Sunshine Fund with a donation and to meet Team Mini Sunshine at the Great North Run.
