Daniel Harrison Awarded MBE for Services to Philanthropy

All of us at the Harrison Foundation are delighted to announce that our trustee, Daniel Harrison, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for his contribution to philanthropy throughout the Commonwealth.

Through the Harrison Foundation and personally, Daniel has supported a wide range of charitable projects, both at home in the UK and overseas. As the former CEO of financial technology business True Potential, which he also co-founded, Daniel oversaw the firm’s charitable programme, which included monthly fund raising initiatives to support causes throughout the UK.

Daniel’s efforts have focused strongly on the North East, where the Foundation has provided financial support to a number of organisations working with vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. These include the Newcastle United Foundation and the Sunderland Foundation of Light, where Daniel has helped establish the Harrison Centres for Social Mobility, teaching a wide range of skills, from English and Maths to esports and coding. These Harrison Centres are designed to re-engage young people who have fallen out of mainstream education, helping them to rebuild confidence and develop practical skills for the future.

Other beneficiaries include Tynedale Hospice at Home, St Oswald’s Hospice and the Sick Children’s Trust, all of which have received funding for essential new equipment. The Foundation has also supported the Sunshine Fund, enabling the purchase of specialist wheelchairs and other items that make a real difference for children with additional needs. More recently, the Harrison Foundation supported Cornerstone Benwell to help the local charity purchase equipment for community groups tackling issues such as poverty, isolation and dementia.

Support has also extended to schools providing special educational needs services in Acomb and Blyth, helping to ensure that children with complex needs have access to the right environments and resources to thrive.

Meanwhile in Antigua, the Harrison Foundation has funded the construction of a new school and is currently redeveloping local playing fields in under-served communities. These projects are helping to provide young people with access to education and recreational spaces, laying the foundation for stronger, healthier futures.

Commenting on the news, Daniel said:

“I was honoured and extremely humbled to receive the MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours. It has been an absolute privilege of mine to meet and support so many great charities locally and in other parts of the world that do exceptional work day in day out. Whenever I meet the people who benefit from that work, it reminds me how important these efforts are in changing lives and creating new opportunities.”

Daniel’s MBE is a recognition of not just individual generosity, but a sustained commitment to community and social mobility. His work through the Harrison Foundation continues to have a lasting impact on countless lives – whether that’s a young person stepping back into education, a family receiving vital hospice support, or a child accessing a wheelchair that opens up their world.

Our congratulations to Daniel Harrison MBE.
