Acomb Pupils Benefiting Every Day from Harrison Wellbeing Hub
The Harrison Foundation visited Acomb First School this week to see first-hand the impact of the Harrison Wellbeing Hub, which has quickly become an important part of daily school life since opening last year.
Trustee Daniel Harrison MBE met with headteacher Hannah Williamson to see how the facility is being used and to discuss its continued development. During the visit, Daniel met pupils who were taking part in sensory circuits, with children using the Hub throughout the school day to help them regulate their emotions, improve concentration and prepare for learning.
Since opening in November 2025, the Harrison Wellbeing Hub has become embedded within the school’s daily routine. More than 30 children now use the space each day, taking part in a range of activities tailored to their individual needs. Alongside sensory circuits, the Hub provides opportunities for small group work, individual support and quiet reflection, helping pupils build confidence and return to the classroom ready to engage with their learning.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the next stage of the Hub’s development. Plans are now being explored to extend its use beyond the school day, allowing the facility to support the wider community and provide more children and families with access to its specialist environment.
Daniel Harrison MBE said: “It was fantastic to return to Acomb First School and see how the Harrison Wellbeing Hub has become part of everyday school life. Seeing the children taking part in sensory circuits and hearing how many pupils are benefiting from the space each day really demonstrated the difference it is making. The Hub was created to help remove barriers to learning by supporting children’s wellbeing, confidence and readiness to learn, and it is encouraging to see that vision becoming a reality. We’re also excited by the school’s plans to extend its use into the wider community so that even more families can benefit in the future.”
The Harrison Wellbeing Hub was created to provide a dedicated space where pupils can receive additional emotional and wellbeing support in a calm and nurturing environment. It forms part of the school’s wider commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed by removing barriers to learning and supporting positive mental wellbeing.
Hannah Williamson, Headteacher at Acomb First School, said: “The Harrison Wellbeing Hub has had a hugely positive impact on our pupils. It is used throughout every day and has become an essential part of how we support children’s wellbeing and readiness to learn. We are seeing children develop greater confidence, improve their emotional regulation and engage more positively in the classroom. We are incredibly grateful to the Harrison Foundation for making this possible and are excited about our plans to extend the Hub’s use to support the wider community.”
